On her sixteenth birthday, Kobeni Yonomori learns that her late grandfather arranged her engagement to Hakuya Mitsumine, a quiet boy who moves into the Yonomori household alongside his precocious younger sister Mashiro. While Kobeni's doting older sister Benio fixates on the new arrivals, fragments of a childhood accident Kobeni cannot remember surface — along with hints that Hakuya and Mashiro are not entirely human.
