Makoto Niwa moves to a new city to live with his aunt Meme Tōwa while his parents work abroad, only to find his cousin Erio wrapped in a futon on the porch, eating pizza and insisting she is an alien. Erio vanished for six months before turning up in the sea with no memory of what happened, and she has not rejoined school or society since. As Makoto tries to pull Erio back into ordinary life, his own adolescence fills with eccentric classmates and his aunt's aggressively carefree parenting.
