Chise Hatori discovers a childhood picture book among the study materials Angelica sends her, and tells Elias Ainsworth how she first found it. In a flashback to her lonely childhood — after her mother's death and a cold reception from relatives — young Chise stumbles into a hidden library in the forest run by Riichi Miura, a gentle spirit who doesn't know he is dead. Across three OVA episodes, their bond around books and stories gives Chise her first taste of kindness before Riichi's unfinished past catches up with him.
