Reito Mizuhara goes into cryosleep in 2040 to wait out a fatal illness, leaving behind his childhood love Erisa Tachibana, and wakes five years later into a world where the MK virus has killed roughly 99.9% of all men. Reito is one of five male survivors immune to the disease and is conscripted into a state programme to repopulate Japan, with a UW agent named Mira Suou assigned to monitor him. All he actually wants is to find Erisa, whose trail went cold three years before he was thawed.
