In a post-apocalyptic Japan scoured by a corrosive wind that turns flesh and metal to dust, the seventeen-year-old Mushroom Keeper Bisco Akaboshi rides the wastelands on a giant crab named Akutagawa and fires arrows that sprout enormous fungi wherever they hit. Branded a terrorist for the very mushrooms authorities blame for spreading the rust, he sets out to find Sabikui — a legendary fungus said to devour rust itself — to save his dying master. A young pale-haired doctor, Milo Nekoyanagi, ends up tangled into the search and rides out with him.
