Shingo Ichinomiya, a burned-out Tokyo salaryman, wakes up inside the body of six-year-old Wendelin von Benno Baumeister, the eighth son of an impoverished frontier knight family in the kingdom of Helmut. With nothing to inherit and a sharp innate talent for magic, Wendelin studies under the elderly hermit-mage Alfred Reinford and starts planning his way out of the cramped Baumeister estate toward the capital and a life as an adventurer.
