Takeshi Nanase, a high schooler in a strained fake relationship with his childhood friend Kurumi Isoshima, finds the wounded Mui Aiba collapsed on his way to kendo practice. When he tries to help her, Mui mistakes him for an attacker and accidentally turns him into a magic user, dragging Takeshi, Kurumi, and his classmate Kazumi Ida into a parallel society of magicians divided into rival factions. The three transfer to Subaru Magic Academy and run into the Ghost Trailers, a faction that wants magicians to rule humans and is steering the world toward a second magical war.
