Satsuki Miyanoshita moves with her father and younger brother Keiichirou to her late mother Kayako's hometown and starts at the same school her mother once attended. On the first day she, Keiichirou, neighbor Hajime Aoyama, older student Momoko Koigakubo, and paranormal-obsessed classmate Leo Kakinoki wander into the abandoned Old School Building next door and discover it is haunted. Satsuki soon learns her mother had sealed the spirits there years ago, and that recent urbanization has set them loose — leaving her mother's diary and a stray cat as the children's only tools for putting them back.
