Laios Touden's party hits a catastrophic setback when the Red Dragon devours his sister Falin deep in the dungeon before she can be saved. With the party broke, stripped of provisions, and racing against the time limit before Falin is fully digested, Laios proposes the only option left: eating the monsters. He, the elven mage Marcille, and the halfling locksmith Chilchuck descend back into the dungeon to rescue Falin and sustain themselves on whatever they slay, from giant scorpions to walking mushrooms.
