Nanako Yukishiro never speaks; she writes what she wants to say as senryu, the 5-7-5 poems she carries around on slips of paper. At high school she joins the literature club alongside Eiji Busujima, an ex-delinquent whose glare scares people off and whose own verses come out clumsy. Nanako is quietly in love with him and keeps looking for a way to say so, while club president Amane Katagiri pushes the two together and schoolmates like Kino Yakobe, who answers only in drawings, fill out their circle.
