Shy university freshman Kanji Sasahara joins the Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture, a campus club whose members live and breathe anime, manga, doujinshi, and games. Among the regulars are the blunt veteran Madarame, the cosplay-obsessed Kanako Ohno, and the handsome Kohsaka, whose normie girlfriend Saki Kasukabe keeps wandering into the clubroom and clashing with otaku life. Together they argue over their favorite fictional anime, save up for doujin conventions, and turn fandom into a daily routine.
