Warp wakes in an empty room with no memory, a hole in his chest, and a locket holding the blurred photo of a girl. In his world memories are stored on small chips and bodies can be swapped at will, which makes his rare body worth stealing; a man called Popo gets him clear of the people after it and gives him that name. He travels from planet to planet trying to recover who he is and who the girl in the locket might be.
