On the island of Midorijima, where the corporation Toue has walled off a luxury resort called Platinum Jail from the run-down Old Residential District, Aoba Seragaki works a quiet job at the Junk Shop Mediocrity. His ordinary life unravels when he is dragged into Rhyme, an underground virtual-reality fighting game, and into the turf wars around it. As friends start disappearing, gaps in Aoba's own memory hint at a secret buried in his mind.
