With the Dark Kingdom defeated, Usagi Tsukino and the other guardians have settled back into ordinary lives until two aliens, Ail and An, arrive to drain human energy and feed their dying tree, the Makaiju. Their Cardian monsters force Usagi to reclaim her powers as Sailor Moon, now aided by the masked Moonlight Knight. This second season opens with the self-contained Makaiju arc.
