Zen Seizaki, a public prosecutor in the newly chartered Shiniki district near Tokyo, opens what looks like a routine case of falsified clinical data at a pharmaceutical company. The trail pulls him into the mayoral race and toward a woman named Ai Magase, whose presence keeps surfacing wherever people choose to end their own lives. As the district debates legalizing suicide, Seizaki finds the question of whether dying can be called good at the center of the conspiracy he uncovers.
