In Fukuoka's Hakata district, an underworld of hitmen, informants, and fixers operates beneath everyday city life. Private investigator Zenji Banba tracks missing persons while Lin Xianming, a knife-skilled assassin who runs a food stall as cover, is handed a contract to kill him. Rather than take the job, Lin hires himself out to Banba as a bodyguard, and the two are pulled into the rivalries among the city's killers and the organizations directing them.
