Job-hunting in Tokyo brings Yoshino Koharu nothing but rejections, so she takes the one offer she gets: a year in the fading town of Manoyama as queen of the Chupakabura Kingdom, a micronation the local tourism board uses to draw visitors. The post reached her by mistake, and board director Ushimatsu Kadota, who once reigned as its king himself, holds her to the contract anyway. Yoshino and four other young women are left to talk up a town of shuttered shops and aging residents.
