Rudo Surebrec, a teenager living on the rim of the floating Sphere, is framed for murder and cast into the Pit — the wasteland below where humanity's trash and monsters collect. There he discovers he is a Giver, able to breathe life into discarded objects and forge them into weapons called Vital Instruments. Rescued by Enjin, a veteran Giver wielding the Umbreaker, Rudo joins the Cleaners and fights the Trash Beasts that infest the depths.
