A year before the Battle of Sekigahara, the wandering ninja Saizō Kirigakure makes his living as an assassin and keeps everyone at arm's length. He crosses paths with Isanami, a shrine maiden fleeing the destruction of her temple, and reluctantly escorts her to the warlord Sanada Yukimura. Yukimura is gathering ten warriors of exceptional skill — the Sanada Ten Braves — and pulls Saizō and Isanami into his plans to shape the coming war.
