In the year 5012, alien-deployed Machine Lifeforms have driven humanity from Earth to the moon. The android combat unit YoRHa sends 2B and her scanner partner 9S to the surface to fight alongside a local Resistance cell. As they cut through waves of machines, 2B and 9S encounter Adam and Eve, twin humanoid machines fascinated with humanity, and the mission's clean premise begins to unravel.
