Takahiro Mizuno was a promising jouster at Winford Academy until an injury pushed him out of the knight program and into the Begleiter track, where students assist competitors rather than ride. When his childhood friend Mio Kisaki is entered into the academy's annual jousting tournament without ever having sat on a horse, Takahiro agrees to coach her as her Begleiter through the contest. Lessons in the saddle anchor a setting built around the sport.
