Twelve-year-old Ritsuka Aoyagi is left alone with an unstable mother after his older brother Seimei is killed. At his new school he meets Soubi Agatsuma, a calm twenty-year-old who claims he knew Seimei and now offers himself as Ritsuka's Fighter Unit. Soubi casts spell battles bound by words, with Ritsuka serving as his Sacrifice. Drawn into a conflict with the organization Septimal Moon, Ritsuka starts to dig into how Seimei really died and why he can remember almost nothing of his own past.
