Seventeen-year-old Ayato Kamina has spent three years inside Tokyo Jupiter, a sealed dome where Tokyo's residents believe the rest of the world has vanished. When the invaders known as the Mu attack with bio-mechanical weapons called Dolems, Ayato discovers he can pilot a colossal humanoid, the RahXephon, summoned through song. Taken outside the dome by Haruka Shitow of the defense agency TERRA, he learns the world he knew is far smaller than the one beyond it.
