Fifteen years after a hyperspace gate opened over the Pacific, the island city of San Teresa houses millions of humans and beings from the world beyond it. A drug bust costs Detective Sergeant Kei Matoba his partner and lets a trafficked fairy slip away. He is forced to work the case with Tilarna Exedilica, a knight who crossed over to recover the fairy and punish those behind the kidnapping, and his contempt for non-humans collides with her unfamiliarity with Earth.
