In the near future of 203X, the detective Kogoro Akechi runs the Boy Detectives Club, a band of young investigators that includes the eager Kensuke Hanasaki. Hanasaki encounters Yoshio Kobayashi, a boy wrapped in a strange fog that makes his body unable to die — and who wants nothing more than to find a way to end his life. Hanasaki recruits the reluctant Kobayashi into the club, a meeting that ties their fates to the criminal known as the Fiend with Twenty Faces.
