Naru Sekiya is a timid fourteen-year-old who loves fairy tales but feels she has nothing that makes her stand out. One night she meets Hana N. Fountainstand, an energetic American transfer student dancing under the moon, who has come to Japan determined to start a yosakoi club. Hana pulls Naru into the world of yosakoi, a team-based traditional dance, and the two set out to gather classmates and form a group of their own.
