Kirie Goshima lives in the coastal town of Kurouzu-cho with her boyfriend Shuichi Saito, who grows increasingly disturbed by spirals appearing everywhere—in snail shells, in the clouds, in his father's obsessive pottery. What begins as isolated eccentricity spreads into a communal curse: the town's residents contort into spiral shapes, structures warp, and escape proves impossible as the geometry of Kurouzu-cho folds inward on itself.
