High-schooler Sakura Mamiya has been able to see ghosts ever since she was spirited away for a week as a child. Her often-absent classmate Rinne Rokudo turns out to be part human, part shinigami, scraping together a living by helping restless spirits resolve their lingering attachments so they can pass through the great red Wheel of Reincarnation. Short on money but bound to the work, Rinne takes on the wandering dead of their town with Sakura drawn into each case beside him.
