Fifteen-year-old Zed, stifled by life in the sealed city of Calm, slips through a portal into Templar, a world where Shard Casters channel crystal Shards to cast spells and summon creatures called Spirits. There he falls in with Roya and is drawn into a struggle over the six Key Spirits, beings said to hold the power to save or destroy the world. Unknown even to Zed, one of them, the mighty Amil Gaoul, sleeps within him.
