Fifteen-year-old Zed, stifled by life in the sealed city of Calm, slips through a portal into Templar, a world where Shard Casters channel crystal Shards to cast spells and summon creatures called Spirits. There he falls in with Roya and is drawn into a struggle over the six Key Spirits, beings said to hold the power to save or destroy the world. Unknown even to Zed, one of them — the mighty Amil Gaoul — sleeps within him.
