After twelve thousand years of silence, the Shadow Angels return to raid human cities and harvest people for their life energy, or prana. To fight back, the organization DEAVA gathers gifted young pilots to fly three ancient vector machines that merge into the giant mecha Aquarion. During an early battle, thirteen-year-old Apollo seizes one of the vectors and routs the enemy, convincing DEAVA he is the reincarnation of Apollonius — a Shadow Angel who once loved a human — much to the irritation of fellow pilot Silvia de Alisia.
