In the summer of 1983, the mountain village of Hinamizawa is sealed off by the government after a mysterious virus spreads among its residents. Keiichi Maebara, Mion Sonozaki, Rena Ryuugu, and the rest of the club are trapped inside as supplies run short and panic turns neighbor against neighbor. No one can say whether the lockdown answers to Oyashiro-sama's curse or to something the authorities are covering up. This OVA adapts a short story Ryukishi07 wrote outside the main question and answer arcs.
