Azuma Kazuki grew up on Treasure Island, a landmass floating high above Earth that is home to enormous sentient machines called Buranki. When the Buranki begin to wake, his mother sends Azuma, his sister Kaoruko, and their father down to the surface aboard a Buranki named Oubu. Ten years later he returns to a ruined Shinjuku, is captured, and is freed by his old friend Kogane Asabuki, who wields a living weapon called a Bubuki. Discovering he too can use one, Azuma gathers fellow users to revive Oubu and confront Reoko Banryu, who rules the wreckage with her own Buranki.
