Orphaned years earlier and tired of leaning on relatives, high schooler Yuushi Inaba rents a cheap room at the boarding house Kotobuki-so when his school dormitory burns down. The place turns out to house ghosts, yokai, and other spirits living openly beside its human tenants: a toddler ghost and his stray dog, a cook visible only as a pair of hands, and a landlord who is a giant yokai. Yuushi settles into the strange household and begins to find a place among neighbors no one else can see.
