Black Rock Shooter started as an illustration by huke: a black-haired girl with a burning blue eye, a long coat and an oversized cannon. Ryo of supercell wrote a song around her, the Vocaloid Hatsune Miku sang it, and huke supplied the artwork and animation for the five-minute video posted to Nico Nico Douga in June 2008. This music video is where the character began; the later OVA and TV series were built on top of it.
