Hotori Arashiyama is a chatty, scatterbrained high schooler who waitresses at the Seaside coffee shop in the Maruko shopping district, which the owner has rebranded as a maid café despite nobody quite knowing how one works. A devoted mystery-fiction fan, Hotori treats everyday neighborhood happenings as cases to crack alongside friends like Toshiko Tatsuno and the shop's regulars. The slice-of-life episodes occasionally drift into ghosts, aliens, and other small-town strangeness.
