Agni and his younger sister Luna survive in a world frozen barren by the Ice Witch, both carrying the Blessing of regeneration that marks the rare people called the Blessed. Their village lives off Agni's endlessly regrowing flesh. When a Blessed soldier named Doma sets Agni alight with a fire that cannot be extinguished, Agni's regeneration keeps him burning alive without dying. Left aflame and consumed by what the fire took from him, he sets out across the ice after Doma.
