Rouge Redstar, a synthetic being called a Nean, hunts rogue androids across a colonized Solar System where humanity coexists uneasily with artificial citizens bound by behavioral laws. Unlike other Neans, Rouge operates free of those constraints, and her handler Naomi Orthmann directs her toward nine targets — the Immortal Nine, a group of unbound Neans with their own agenda. On Mars, Rouge's mission collides with a growing movement among Neans who reject their second-class existence.
