After his girlfriend Mami Nanami dumps him a month into dating, college student Kazuya Kinoshita hires Chizuru Mizuhara through a rental-girlfriend app to soothe his ego. Their arrangement stops being a one-off when his hospitalized grandmother takes a liking to Chizuru, and Kazuya keeps paying for her company to maintain the fiction. The tangle tightens once he discovers Chizuru lives next door and attends his university, with other rental girlfriends and Mami herself circling the fragile lie.
