Synopsis
Fourteen-year-old Shinji Ikari is summoned to the fortress city of Tokyo-3 by his estranged father, Gendo, who commands the secret organization NERV. With creatures called Angels attacking the city, Shinji is pressed into piloting Evangelion Unit-01, a giant biomechanical weapon, despite no training and no wish to fight. Taken in by NERV officer Misato Katsuragi and serving alongside the withdrawn pilot Rei Ayanami, Shinji faces each Angel while trying to earn the approval of a father who keeps him at arm's length. This manga is Yoshiyuki Sadamoto's own retelling, distinct from the anime.
