An unnamed boy walks a ruined road alone after the war kills his mother, past tanks, wreckage, and bodies. Sheltering one night in an abandoned bus, he meets a girl his own age, just as orphaned by the fighting. Minutes later the area turns into a battlefield; the two strangers escape down the same abandoned lane and agree to walk it to the end together. Drawn in near-monochrome pencil, their trip brings them up against soldiers and other survivors, with no adult left to take them in.
