Naoto Yanagi has coasted through school rich, handsome, and undefeated until plain, blunt transfer student Mikoto Kujō outscores him on her first day. Stung by his first loss, he sets out to make her fall for him and then reject her, only to keep failing because Mikoto barely registers his attempts. Their lopsided rivalry trails them from grade school into their college Astronomy Club, where Yanagi's scheme slowly turns into something he can't admit.
