A thousand years after an apocalypse called the Seven Days of Fire, the surviving kingdoms cling to shrinking patches of land beside the Sea of Corruption, a spreading toxic forest of poisonous spores and giant insects. Nausicaä, princess of the small Valley of the Wind, can read the wind and even commune with the insects, especially the colossal Ohmu. When the empire of Tolmekia drags her homeland into a war over an ancient weapon, she is pulled into the conflict between great powers.
