To fight a falling birth rate, a near-future Japan enacts the Yukari Law: at sixteen, every citizen is assigned a state-chosen marriage partner by genetic compatibility. Yukari Nejima finally confesses to his longtime crush Misaki Takasaki, only to receive his government notice pairing him with classmate Lilina Sanada days later. Caught between the feelings he just admitted and the partner the law has handed him, Nejima has to navigate both relationships under a system that punishes anyone who refuses.
