A 14-year-old girl beaten at home and abused at school is about to throw herself into a river when a masked stranger stops her. Rather than let her die, he takes her with him, gives her the name Sachi—"happiness"—and they begin living together in his apartment. Sachi treats their escape as a pact: if they evade the police and her parents she will marry him, and if they are caught they die together, while the search for a kidnapping victim closes in around them.
