Red is a brash young Trainer from Pallet Town who sets out across Kanto to fill his Pokédex and prove himself in battle, starting with a Poliwhirl rather than one of Professor Oak's usual starters. His path crosses with the cocky prodigy Blue, Oak's own grandson, and with Green, a con artist who sells him fake gear, as the three tangle with Team Rocket, the syndicate exploiting Pokémon for profit. Each later arc follows one of the games' regions with a new set of Trainers, Gym battles and a run at the Pokémon League.
