Baku Madarame, the gambler known as Usogui, the Lie Eater, stakes his life on rigged and deadly games against opponents who cheat without remorse. His wagers are refereed by Kakerou, an underground organization whose officials enforce every bet to the letter, and Baku's real aim is to out-gamble Kakerou itself and seize control of it. Backed by his apprentice Kaji and the brawler Marco, he reads bluffs and engineers traps across contests like Escape the Building and Hangman.
