On a winter day in early-twentieth-century Japan, the demon Vivi comes home to find an abandoned infant crying on his doorstep. The baby meets his eyes and breaks into a smile his butler Toni compares to a flower, so Vivi takes her in on a whim and names her Hana. Years later Hana is a cheerful teenager who brings him flowers every day, unaware that a demon's touch makes them wilt, and Vivi finds himself caught between the role of guardian and an attachment he keeps refusing to name.
