Hikari Hanazono has placed second to Kei Takishima since the childhood wrestling match she lost to him at six, and she has followed him from school to school ever since, set on beating him at something. At fifteen both sit among the top seven students at the ultra-elite Hakusenkan, a ranked group called Special A, or S.A. Hikari treats Kei purely as a rival to topple and stays oblivious to his feelings for her, while fellow S.A. members Akira, Tadashi, Ryuu, Jun, and Megumi fill out the group.
