Kyon, a sardonic student at North High, becomes the unwilling confidant of his classmate Haruhi Suzumiya, who announces to the room that she has no interest in ordinary humans and wants only to meet aliens, time travelers, and espers. On a whim she founds the SOS Brigade to hunt down the supernatural, drafting Kyon in alongside the silent Yuki Nagato, the timid Mikuru Asahina, and the perpetually smiling Itsuki Koizumi. Nagaru Tanigawa's light novels are where the Brigade's escapades begin.
