In the title story, a lone computer keeps running on an Earth where every living thing has died out, holding to the mission it was given across 27 million years. Four more short pieces follow. Hanako wakes from a long sleep with three days left to live; Jun Shiozaki sets out to bring the extinct tuna back; and Noriko, pregnant by her married lover Matsumura, is told the thing growing inside her may be a tumor instead.
